Purposeful Boards, Powerful Fundraising (Oct 12 & 13)

With Chuck V. Loring, MBA, CFRE

Friday, October 12 or Saturday, October 13 ~ 8:30am to 4:00pm
Housatonic Community College, Beacon Hall

It's never been more important for boards and staff to work together effectively to solicit financial support for your organization. Designed for board-staff teams, this practical session addresses the complementary roles board members play in their organization's governance and resource development.

The session begins with a close look at board recruitment, structure, operations, and culture, knowing that weak boards don't raise funds effectively. The second part of the session focuses on how to involve board members in effective fundraising.

Topics covered in this day-long session will include:

  1. trends impacting governance & fundraising in the nonprofit sector
  2. the stages of board evolution that impact board performance and why some nonprofits confuse volunteering with governance
  3. legal obligations of nonprofit boards and best practices surrounding board roles and responsibilities and board recruitment
  4. how the lack of effective board structure can kill fundraising
  5. how successful fundraising is not about asking for money
  6. periodic fundraising exercises you can do with your board
  7. how to get your board to articulate your organization's value to the community
  8. how every single willing board member can be a great fundraiser

To maximize the benefit of this session, each organization may have a maximum of five representatives at the workshop which should include the Executive Director and at least three board members. Having staff and board members from the same organization attend as a team will enhance the experience.

Organizations participating in Purposeful Boards, Powerful Fundraising will have the opportunity to have at least two hours of one-to-one follow up consultation with Mr. Loring or another expert on Board roles and responsibilities at no additional cost.

To get on the PRIORITY LIST for registration, please submit your name, title/position and organization name and indicate your first-choice preference for the day your organization will attend to Jackie Downing at jdowning@cfgnh.org.

Registration will open on July 23 at 9:00am. At that time, an organization must commit to which day its team will attend, and list at least one staff and three Board members who will attend. Seating is limited. Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration: $100 per organization. Registration includes parking, continental breakfast and lunch. For scholarship information, please contact Jackie Downing at jdowning@cfgnh.org or call 203-777-7072.
