Ned Miller


Ned Miller was born and raised in Shelton, and his connection to the Valley runs deep. After attending elementary schools in Shelton and graduating from St. Joseph High School, he earned a degree in economics from St. Bernard College.

Ned’s career in the insurance industry spans more than four decades. Starting as an underwriter for Kemper Insurance, he eventually joined the Miller Agency, the family's well-known property and casualty business. By the end of 2012, Ned had risen to the office of president of Ned Miller Associates, now a division of The Starkweather and Shepley Insurance Brokerage Company.

He has held significant positions in numerous Valley organizations such as board chairman and annual community campaign chair of the Valley United Way, president of the Ansonia Rotary Club, Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America, and the Shelton Jaycees. Also, he has served as vice president of the Parent-Child Resource Center, and Treasurer of the Masonic Temple Association. He has also served on many other Valley boards and committees.

Ned's contributions to the Valley community have not gone unnoticed. He has been the recipient of several prestigious honors and awards, including The Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award from the Valley United Way, The Good Scout Award from the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America, The Dr. John Ireland Howe Award from the Derby Historical Society, and The Gold Seal Award from the Valley Chamber of Commerce, among many others.

Ned lives in West Haven and has two adult children and two grandchildren.
