Storm Ambulance & Rescue Corps to Announce New Drone Unit

“The new drone unit will greatly enhance emergency response capabilities throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley,” said Chief Thomas Lenart.

Derby, Connecticut (March 17, 2026) — Storm Ambulance & Rescue Corps will hold a press conference at 2PM on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Payden Field House (45 Chatfield Street, Derby) to announce the creation of the Storm Ambulance & Rescue Corps Drone Unit.

“The new drone unit will greatly enhance emergency response capabilities throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley,” said Chief Thomas Lenart. “It will work in coordination with the Ansonia Fire Department and Shelton Fire Department to support search and rescue operations, incident command, disaster response, and situational awareness during emergencies.”

Lenart said the new drone unit and program was made possible through a generous grant from the Valley Community Foundation which funded the purchase of the drone and related equipment.

During the press event Friday, Storm Ambulance personnel will conduct a live demonstration of the drone’s capabilities, highlighting how technology will improve emergency response and public safety in the region.

Members of the public, local officials, and members of the media are invited to attend.
